Kellen
Kelun is a stone figure that appeared on a bridge, distinct from previous stone wraiths. He is identified as a mouthpiece of the gods, possessing the ability to shapeshift, notably into Mellon, a nearby ghost. Kelun communicates telepathically, expressing authority and disappointment, particularly regarding the destruction of a Sacred Tree.
Long before he confronted the party as a stone figure, Kelun (also called Kellen) was known at Ulmira’s Step as one of the old construct-statues from before the gods left — a mouthpiece of the gods that had begun to speak of its own accord. In those days he was inseparable from the witch Ygva, and when the Celsians came to teach he learned alongside her of the Amber Reach and of magic. This was before Oshel came down to take Ygva as her apprentice.
He primarily speaks for Caranthalis, the god associated with the tree, and has served Ossa, Mollthain, and Tlellic, indicating a connection to a broader divine pantheon that includes eight gods, with Otheidas representing cycles of life and undeath. His role extends beyond mere confrontation; he serves as a formal diplomatic envoy in the supernatural dynamics of the party's journey, often departing to announce their arrival, which showcases his authority and adherence to protocols.
As the party prepared to flee the site of destruction, Kelun blocked their escape route, demanding they follow him to face consequences for their actions. He questioned their failure to seek Ygva and insisted they accompany him, stating, "My name is Kelun and you will follow me and we will decide what the consequences need to be." His announcement of the party's arrival heightened their anxiety regarding the stakes of the impending encounter. When Jamal requested a safe escort to Ygva, Kelun revealed a transactional perspective on their relationship by responding that he had nothing Ygva needed at the moment, diminishing the party's status to that of potentially useful components. His shapeshifting led to confusion among the party, influencing their decisions and resulting in a tactical division of their group.
Status: Diplomatic Envoy.
