Borek

Borek, a dwarf and flamboyant member of the Syndicate, is easily recognizable by his ostentatious style, adorned with multiple rings, notably a heavy two-finger ring bearing the Syndicate emblem. His welcoming demeanor allows him to facilitate deals effectively, often offering information about the whereabouts of Heyou's missing limbs in exchange for Askavir eggs. Borek’s loud personality makes him the center of attention during social gatherings, where he entertains at communal tables, reflecting his desire for social engagement and prominence.

At Ulmira’s Step he made Heyou an offer: he knew where one of Heyou’s missing limbs was, in exchange for Askavir eggs — the great bird does not breed but lays eggs that some believe hold the last vestiges of the departed gods, which would be very valuable to him. Before Heyou set off, Borek draped him with his own heavy silver Borek's Ward-Medallion — not a key to finding the bird, as Heyou first supposed, but a charm to keep him from being eaten right away — and, persuaded the party might actually succeed, sponsored tier-two gear for all of them, on loan. He let slip that he was holding something back, to be shared once the job was done.

As a key figure within the Syndicate, Borek operates in the shadows, tied to the underground dealings of the region. His influence is noted when Heyou, a former fence for the Syndicate, expresses interest in Askavir eggs, suggesting that Borek’s motivations involve leveraging the unique properties of these items for personal gain. This connection amplifies Borek's reputation, as discussions among party members reflect caution regarding the potential risks of engaging with him.

Recently, it has come to light that Borek is the Syndicate Leader of Ulmira’s Step, deepening his impact on the narrative. Despite not revealing his name, the risks associated with engaging him are increasingly evident, particularly in light of Heyou's proposal that tracking the Askavir could lead them to the witch who possesses Sylvie's heart. Furthermore, Borek has hinted at possessing a part of Heyou's essence, demanding Askavir eggs in exchange for it, highlighting the intricate dealings and stakes surrounding their interactions. During a planning session, it was noted that Borek was engaged in entertaining others in a public setting, providing an opportunity for stealthy infiltration into his quarters.

In recent events, Borek has demonstrated his role as a fixer linked to the Syndicate, known for leveraging influence and information, often employing intimidation and coercion. He is physically imposing and wears a magical breastplate that emits a scent of Splendor magic. Borek possesses a binding rune, which he shows to another character, indicating his desire to control and manipulate. He confronted Draz regarding the disappearance of the Sarru and Savel families and questioned him about passing a "witch's" test, suggesting that Sylvie is the witch influencing the group. During this interaction, he offered Draz a translucent purple gem and an invitation to join the Syndicate, presenting it as a way to counteract malign influences. As tensions rose, he attempted to cast a restraining spell on Heyou, which failed. When Sylvie conjured a Horror, Borek panicked and retreated deeper into his residence, leaving his guards and the conflict behind.
