A rolled-up patch of hide that Heyou cut from the chest of the Umbra-Brute beneath Ulmira’s Step. On it are three symbols in a language none of the party knows — not the cut scars found elsewhere on the creature, but a deliberate brand, of a kind meant to compel or empower whatever bears it. The marks glowed just before the dead brute dragged itself back up, and Sylvie read the power in them as the same Umbra-sort that opposes the sacred pyres and stands at enmity with her.
Heyou took it to study the runes, trace their meaning, and perhaps ask the witch Ygva what they are. While he carries it, it has quietly changed him: his fortune runs a little stronger and a little darker at once — a gift that is not all gift.
