This event, known as the "Sundering of the Stoneheart," resulted in the destruction of her home and the irreversible transformation of her magic from earth-attuned to lunar. She now wields potent, moon-infused magic, bearing the indelible marks of this destructive transformation.

The following elements form the foundation of Sylvie's character and would need to be integrated into the game world's lore and geography.

  • The Stoneheart Peaks & The Ridgeborne Community: An ancient, isolated human community nestled deep within the mountains. This community, specifically the Stoneheart Peaks settlement, is now destroyed/sundered/ruined due to a cataclysmic magical event.
  • The Stoneweaver Order & The Earth-Heart:
  • The Stoneweavers: An ancient, hereditary magical order within the Stoneheart Peaks. Their magic was traditionally earth-attuned, focused on harmony, containment, and subtle manipulation of mountain energies.
  • The Earth-Heart: A profound, ancient, primal nexus of magic hidden deep within the Stoneheart Peaks. It is a vast, powerful entity whose immense, raw energy requires constant guardianship.
  • The Five Guardians: Only five Stoneweavers (Sylvie, Kaelen, Rhys, and two others) were entrusted with its guardianship, performing the Confluence Ritual to contain its volatile power.
  • Kaelen & Rhys:
  • Kaelen: A powerful Stoneweaver whose ambition led him to seek absolute control over the Earth-Heart. He engaged in insidious magical and psychological manipulations directed at Sylvie, attempting to destabilize her connection to the Earth-Heart and gain dominance.
  • Rhys: A Stoneweaver and Sylvie's peer who, despite understanding Kaelen's problematic actions, chose to prioritize Kaelen's promises of power for the order over intervening to support Sylvie, remaining silent and complicit.
  • The Sundering of the Stoneheart:
  • The Event: A cataclysmic magical confrontation during the sacred Confluence Ritual. Kaelen's escalating magical assault and his attempt to directly control and violate Sylvie's magical channels triggered Sylvie's forceful, newly awakened lunar magic.
  • The Cataclysm: The resulting clash of unleashed power between Sylvie and Kaelen, combined with Kaelen's previous manipulations and the compromised state of the Earth-Heart, caused the Sundering of the Stoneheart, destroying the mountain settlement (and much of the mountain itself). Occasional survivors may be encountered. The surviving members of her community, if any found her, would likely view her as a destructive force, a pariah responsible for their ruin.

  • Rhys: Was trapped within the fractured remnants of the Earth-Heart in a unique magical stasis/prison, a living consequence of his choices.

  • Shift in Power: Sylvie's old earth-attuned Stoneweaver magic was irrevocably severed. Her new power is entirely lunar-based, manifesting from a profound connection to the "Sister Moon."
  • The Staff of Sundered Moonlight: Her magical two-handed staff was forged in the chaos of the Sundering. An ancient tree branch, steeped in the Peaks' energy, became infused with her raw lunar magic, transforming into a staff dense as petrified wood, pulsing with inner moonlight and silver veins.
  • The Whispering Deck: A cherished tarot deck, a gift from her grandmother (a previous Stoneweaver). Sylvie had it on her person during the Sundering, and it was imbued with the chaotic lunar energies, becoming a living link to her past and a transformed magical artifact. It is used for meditation and unlocking magical insight.
  • Knowledge Acquisition: She studies moon magic through meticulous direct observation of the moon and magical experimentation, compiling insights into her grimoire.  She also seeks out forgotten lore scraps, insights from oral history traditions, ancient runes from forgotten days, trying to piece together what the wild magic is that speaks to her now.
  • Flint: Sylvie's crow familiar. He served as a silent witness during the time of Kaelen's manipulations and now remains her loyal companion.
  • Sylvie's Lunar Weavings: She knits, especially under moonlight, weaving silent protective spells and lunar blessings into the fabric. These charm-infused knitted items are often given to those she perceives as vulnerable.

1. As a Stoneweaver, mechanically you were once a level 5-7 sorcerer.,

2. What Kaelen did sundered the mountain, and tried to disempower you. Instead, you pushed your powers into the mountain itself. Kaelen & Rhys cast part of the mountain up to the moon.,

3. There was a period in which Sylvie was without magic, and she slowly began to relearn as she traveled between settlements, scraping together bits of lore.,

4. She learned that when she traveled in moonlight, she was generally able to travel safely.,

5. Some of the lore that she picked up related to practices of the old Veiled Gods (Splendor Domain). Oddly enough, the practices seem to work, even in the absence of divine connection

  • I guess my question then is are Kaelen / Rhys dead then? Maybe not. If she was stripped of her power by events, then she presumably didn’t win that battle magically?
  • She believes with a high degree of confidence that they are dead.

This wasn't merely the celestial body, but a recognized cosmic counterpart to the Earth-Heart's primal energy, representing balance, cycles, unseen currents, and receptive power – an ethereal yin to the Earth-Heart's grounded yang. Over millennia, as the Stoneweavers became increasingly pragmatic in their containment duties, this lunar aspect faded into obscured metaphor, honored in name but rarely truly understood or actively engaged. It was a concept, a philosophical balance, rather than an accessible magical wellspring.,

GM Response

Sylvie can think whatever she would like about it; I suspect the bulk of it more has to do with Kaelen & Rhys casting her power with a chunk of the mountain up to the moon.

But I also like the idea of the "Earth-heart" connecting to her, a godlike connection but one that is impersonal and inchoate.

I generally lean against "oh, it's in the protagonist's blood" explanations for things, but if that's important to you we can figure something out.
